to MSHAC

MSHAC Welcomes Powles and Dziomba to Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved adding James M. Powles IV and Michael Dziomba to the board. James is a Middle School Fine Arts teacher. He has a passion for painting watercolors and taking photos of his adventures. He has a B.A. in Fine Arts from Montclair College, Masters of Fine Arts Education and a Supervisor certification from Kean University. He is currently doing the planning of a series of art salon critique sessions to begin mid year 2012.

Mike was born and raised on Long Island N.Y. and currently resides in New Jersey. After spending over 30 years in corporate America, Mike decided to actively pursue his love of painting. He is a self-taught artist and continues to attend workshops and classes to fine-tune his skills.
Being a self taught artist entails a lot of trial and error and every painting brings with it a new lesson. Mike experimented with various mediums until he found his “calling” with acrylics. Why acrylics, because this medium allows him the flexibility to experiment on the canvas and when necessary, make quick adjustments during the painting experience.
His work tends to be very detail oriented. While he takes artistic license, he doesn’t want to stray too far from the subject that inspired him to paint it in the first place.
His paintings tend to focus on rustic, quiet or simple times. You will often find him photographing farms, barns and rustic areas for possible paintings. Back in his studio he will then work from a series of photographs taking artistic license but not straying too far from the image, which inspired him. His goal is to bring the viewer into the painting and hopefully instill in them the same sense of tranquility he had during the painting experience. The biggest compliment is when someone views one of his paintings and says, “ I feel like I am there!”
You can find more of his work at www.thefineartofmikedziomba.com.
ANR ARTFUL PARTNERSHIP WITH ATLANTIC HEALTH PLANS HONOR VOLUNTEERISM AND VAN GOGH
The next show at Atlantic for Volunteers. The board of trustees announced today that the second show at the Atlantic Cafe will feature the art of members who have volunteered their time and energy in supporting MSHAC activities. A volunteer is defined as a person who has not only said they would actively support an activity but who actually show up. Volunteer activities include assisting in setting up our exhibitions, bringing refreshments, helping take down shows, chairing or co chairing events, committee participation, board membership, and taking on a leadership role. This next show will be in the second quarter of the year. A prospectus will appear on this website and be sent to those who have volunteered for the 2012 membership year.
The third show at the Atlantic Cafe will be open to MSHAC members and others. While the announcement will be forthcoming in a prospectus and other notification, it will be honoring Van Gogh, his art, life and times. Applicants must submit their own version of Van Gogh’s paintings, paintings or photos about his life and times, or other aspects of his life and times. More details will be published in March.
